From March 10 to March 14, New Caney ISD celebrated College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) Week to recognize the different ways that our district prepares students for postsecondary success. CCMR focuses on preparing students for life after graduation, and encompasses curriculum, programs, activities, and resources to ensure students are equipped to thrive.
“[CCMR] influences the programming we provide for students and the classes they take,” said CCMR/Advanced Academics and GT Coordinator, Hanna Hollohazy. “It is the link between instructional programming and preparation, counseling, and the certifications offered through the district’s CTE department.”

To highlight CCMR, New Caney ISD plans a week every year that is full of initiatives to get students thinking about their postsecondary plans. This year, elementary schools and middle schools planned dress up days and learned about different postsecondary options through announcements and campus activities, and each high school collaborated with the Houston Area Recruiters Network (HARN) to host mini college fairs for students to visit with college and university representatives.
Although CCMR Week shines a spotlight on the district’s CCMR initiatives, resources are available for students year-round.
College Readiness
College readiness focuses on preparing students for both two-year colleges and four-year universities. Through collaboration with the counseling departments and local colleges, students are kept up to date on the latest college admissions policies and are equipped with resources to assist in planning to attend college.

Financial Aid
Financial aid refers to both scholarships and money offered to students through government agencies. Financial Aid nights are hosted throughout the school year to help students apply for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TAFSA). The New Caney ISD Scholarship Bank is also kept up to date to inform students of scholarship opportunities and deadlines.
Applying
Events are held to assist students with their college applications, including Apply Before the Pie, which encourages students to submit their college applications before Thanksgiving to meet the December deadline. Students can also meet with their counselors for assistance on applying to Texas colleges and universities through Apply Texas or colleges outside of Texas through Common App.
Career
Career Day Presentation at Valley Ranch Elementary
Elementary and middle schools host career days for representatives from different industries to educate students on their line of work. For students interested in entering the workforce after high school, NCISD works with Workforce Solutions to provide students with information to help them get hired after graduation. Sites such as My Texas Future and My Next Move help students find careers that fit their interests.
Military
New Caney ISD works closely with military recruiters from all branches. The recruiters visit each campus on a rotating schedule to allow students to ask questions and learn more about enlisting. The recruiters visit each campus at least once a month to allow ample opportunities for students.
